DSE manufacture a range of Optical Displacement Sensors for distance and thickness measurement. The optical triangulation method of measurement is used, a laser beam forms a small light spot on the target object and a CCD camera detects the angle of reflection.   Unique features of the DSE range are direct digital RS2232C or RS422/485 output from the sensors in addition to the normal voltage and current outputs and the ability to measure accurately at long stand off distances.
